Bunker Down was founded in Victoria, Australia in early 2009 by CEO Dirk Talbot, who lost his beautiful country estate to the Black Saturday bushfires.
‘Walking through the ashes that used to be my house,’ Mr Talbot said in a recent interview with 9News, ‘I started thinking about how you build a house that doesn’t burn. I’ve now dedicated my life to providing the ultimate space of protection for my family.’ The decision brought Mr Talbot to Sydney, where the sedimentary rock of the Sydney Basin provided the perfect palate for his first custom-built subterraneous home at Bondi, Sydney.
